One on one nature & landscape photography tutoring

Most people learn best when watching someone explain and then doing it themselves. Landscape, nature and wildlife photography are no different. With any learned skill, you progress forward through absorbing information about that art and learning from mistakes made. Mistakes are an invaluable part of photography when you progressively learn from them and fine tune your eye and knowledge of the art. For every great photo you see, that person made a lot of mistakes and learned from them to get to that point. They are still learning and growing. You won't get there overnight, but with guidance you'll better understand and enjoy the journey.

If you are a beginner our session will go over the basic technical aspects of photography. Basic camera operation, shutter speed, aperature, ISO, depth of field, composition, lenses, and resources to help you edit your photos. This will give you a solid foundation so you're able to make better choices with your camera as you grow and explore the art.

If you're already knowledgeable with your camera's functions and capabilities our session will dive deeper into your interests and what you're looking to get out of pursuing photography. Understanding how a beautiful scene to your eyes doesn't always translate to a beautiful photograph. How the weather, time of day and the year play a huge role in the quality of your image and conveying emotion. Isolating a subject and using the environment and light to your advantage. In the end, understanding photography is understanding our relationship with light more than anything else. Being respectful and working with nature and not against it.

For wildlife specific tutoring a telephoto lens of at least 200mm is a necessity. I use a 150-600mm telephoto and most of my shots are taken between 300-600mm.

All sessions start at $120 for 2-3 hours of one on one learning in the field. Group workshops are also available at a decreased price per individual. The price will increase depending on travel and will also decrease for returning students that want more one on one time in the field.

You will be provided with material going over all the points we will discuss and correspondence is available to all students after our session at no extra cost. You can ask questions and I'll critique your photos via email.

Understanding and improving your photography is a journey and everyone’s destination and amount of time it takes to get there is different.
